A woman delivered her baby in the back seat of a Waymo autonomous taxi while traveling to University of California San Francisco hospital. The driverless vehicle’s Rider Support Team detected unusual activity inside the car and contacted emergency services. By the time the taxi reached the hospital, the birth had already occurred. “We’re proud to be a trusted ride for moments big and small, serving riders from just seconds old to many years young,” a Waymo representative told KRON-TV. “We wish the new family all the best, and we look forward to safely getting them where they’re going through many of life’s events.” The company told KTVU-TV that the vehicle was “immediately removed from service for cleaning” following the incident.
