Calvin Johnson, 36, faces grand theft auto charges after crashing a stolen 2018 BMW convertible while driving over 100 mph in Florida. Johnson allegedly took the vehicle from Ormond Beach’s Centennial Park after finding keys in the cupholder while the owner walked his dog. Following the single-vehicle accident, passing drivers pulled Johnson from the totaled car. When police arrived, Johnson denied stealing the BMW, telling officers he was “teleported into the vehicle.” He referenced the X-Men and told cops, “You saved me from the aliens,” according to an arrest affidavit. Johnson was hospitalized under guard at Halifax Hospital Medical Center before transfer to county jail. Johnson has multiple 2024 convictions including trespass, obstruction, loitering, resisting, and grand theft for stealing a $1,500 bicycle. When asked why he stole that bike, Johnson answered, “I just felt like it.” (Story URL)
