A 57-year-old unemployed former nurse in northern Italy was arrested for allegedly dressing as his deceased mother to renew her identity card and continue collecting her pension. The man’s mother, Graziella Dall’Oglio, died in 2022 at age 82 in Borgo Virgilio near Mantua, but he never reported her death to authorities. When her identity card expired, he wore makeup, a wig, and her clothing to pose as his mother at the municipal office. A processing agent became suspicious after noticing dark hair on the woman’s neck, hands, and chin, then contacted police. Officers discovered surveillance footage showing the man drove to the office despite his mother having no driver’s license. Police found Dall’Oglio’s mummified remains wrapped in sleeping bags in a laundry room closet. The man faces charges including concealing a corpse, fraud, impersonation, and document forgery.
