Paramount has hired Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to write, produce and direct a new Star Trek movie aimed at reviving the franchise after nearly a decade without theatrical releases. The duo previously worked on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming. This film will not continue the J.J. Abrams reboot series and won’t feature Chris Pine or other actors from those movies. Plot details remain secret, but the project connects to no previous television series, films, or development projects. Star Trek Beyond opened in 2016 as the franchise’s last big screen adventure. Multiple directors including Quentin Tarantino, Noah Hawley, and Matt Shakman previously attempted Star Trek projects that never materialized. Goldstein and Daley recently completed Mayday starring Ryan Reynolds for Skydance, which will premiere on Apple TV+. (Story URL)
