Peter Riera fired four rounds from a .45-caliber Glock at three people outside Harper’s Pub in Port St. Lucie on Tuesday following a dispute about chicken egg production. No one was struck by bullets. Port St. Lucie Police Master Sergeant Dominick Mesiti confirmed “an argument between the 3 victims and the Mr. Riera stemmed from a conversation about how many eggs a chicken can lay as Mr. Riera claimed to be a farmer who raised chickens.” Riera became paranoid after the argument, accusing victims of trying to “con” him. All parties had been drinking and were intoxicated to varying degrees. Riera faces multiple charges including three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Two victims also face charges for resisting officers during the investigation. Mesiti stated: “Arming yourself with a handgun when you’re under the influence is not a good idea.” (Story URL)
