A 53-year-old Pennsylvania man was hospitalized Tuesday night after his dog accidentally fired a shotgun, striking him in the lower back. Shillington Police received the shooting report at approximately 11:13 p.m. Officers learned a dog had “jumped onto the bed and set the gun off” before arriving at the scene. The victim told police he was cleaning his shotgun and placed it on his bed before sitting down. One of his dogs then jumped onto the bed, causing the weapon to discharge into his back. The man’s son was home but not in the same room during the incident. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he “immediately went into surgery for his injuries.” Hospital staff reported he underwent initial surgery but required additional operations.
