Dictionary.com announced Wednesday that “67” has been selected as its 2025 Word of the Year. The online dictionary describes the annual selection as a “linguistic time capsule, reflecting social trends and global events that defined the year.” The term, pronounced “six-seven” and never “sixty-seven,” emerged as brainrot slang among kids and teenagers this year. Teachers and parents report hearing the phrase used to mean “so-so,” “maybe this” or “maybe that.” The term traces back to Skrilla’s 2024 song “Doot Doot (6 7)” and NBA player LaMelo Ball, who stands 6 feet, 7 inches tall. A viral “67 Kid” also popularized the phrase at a youth basketball game. “It’s part inside joke, part social signal and part performance,” said one expert. Dictionary.com analysis shows “67” appeared six times more frequently in October than throughout all of 2024. (Story URL)
