The online dictionary describes the annual selection as a “linguistic time capsule, reflecting social trends and global events that defined the year.” The term, pronounced “six-seven” and never “sixty-seven,” emerged as brainrot slang among kids and teenagers this year. Teachers and parents report hearing the phrase used to mean “so-so,” “maybe this” or “maybe that.” The term traces back to Skrilla’s 2024 song “Doot Doot (6 7)” and NBA player LaMelo Ball, who stands 6 feet, 7 inches tall. A viral “67 Kid” also popularized the phrase at a youth basketball game. “It’s part inside joke, part social signal and part performance,” said one expert.
