Newark authorities determined that reported monkey sightings around the city stem from a social media hoax featuring AI-generated content. Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda confirmed police received reports Thursday morning about wild monkeys loose at Georgia King Village. Animal control had received similar calls about monkeys roaming Newark streets the day before. Officers conducted searches in reported areas but discovered no evidence of primates. Miranda told WPIX-TV: “Officers have not located any monkeys. Any photos or videos posted on social media regarding this incident are likely AI-generated.” The investigation concluded the sightings were fabricated. (Story URL)
