MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – Hennepin County prosecutors have filed arson charges against a 30-year-old Fridley man for throwing two explosive Molotov cocktails at a Minneapolis ice cream shop.
Firomsa Ahmed Umar faces two counts of first-degree arson for attacks on Fletcher’s Ice Cream & Cafe in northeast Minneapolis on Sunday night and again Monday afternoon.
Police say he was caught on surveillance footage and seen by multiple witnesses. A window at the business broken and there was other damage to the building, which has apartments above. The ice cream shop displays a large LGBTQ+ Progress Pride Flag, but it isn’t clear whether that was the motive.
Umar was arrested Monday afternooon during a traffic stop in Minneapolis. A red gasoline container was found on the passenger seat of the car he was driving.
