Cody Martinson (Brookings Co. Jail)
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KFGO) – A Sioux Falls man, previously accused of killing cats, has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of animal cruelty.
Cory Martinson was on probation for a 2024 conviction of animal cruelty in Brookings and he was not supposed to have any animals.
In July of last year, Martinson took temporary possession of several cats from someone on Facebook Marketplace. Martinson surrendered two cats to to the humane society. They had to be euthanized. The remaining cats were never found. He later admitted to killing four of them.
The Minnehaha County State’s Attorney says the sentence sends a clear message that the community will not tolerate the abuse or neglect of animals.
