Amherst, Nova Scotia is partnering with the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter to choose the town’s inaugural “pet mayor” from 10 animal candidates. Public voting on the shelter’s website costs CA$5 ($3.56 U.S.) per vote, with proceeds supporting shelter animals. Nine dogs compete alongside one cat named Meowstache. Dog candidates include Derby, Major, Susie, Raeya, Ducky, Nunya Beeswax, Jack, Mr. Bear and Nova. Nova campaigns as the “Fetch master of Amherst,” promising “more wood chips in the dog park, free balls at every poop bag station and town-wide treat dispensers.” Meowstache is described as “Distinguished. Determined. Dapper.” Derby touts his “office experience, loves paperwork (well, shredding the paper) and has boundless energy.” Voting ends Friday, with the winner announced Saturday. (Story URL)
