An Oklahoma City high school girls basketball team voluntarily returned their championship trophy after their coach discovered they had actually lost the title game. Academy of Classical Christian Studies appeared to defeat Apache High School 44-43 on a buzzer-beater in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association championship. However, coach Brendan King reviewed game tape that night due to scoreboard confusion during the contest. “As soon as I walked out of the locker room, my stomach kind of turned into knots. And I said, ‘I’m going to need to know if we really won this game or not,'” King told CBS News. His basket-by-basket recount revealed the true score was 43-42 in Apache’s favor. Though league rules prohibit score changes after games end, King informed his team. Players unanimously agreed to return the trophy. King personally delivered it to Apache High School. (Story URL)
