Despite this belief, 47 percent admit they actually sought similarities when finding their partner, compared to 21 percent who wanted opposites. Americans think couples need 54 percent shared traits for relationship success, particularly core values at 58 percent, family goals at 54 percent, and relationship boundaries at 48 percent. 84 percent cannot imagine life without their partner.
