A new study finds that a “stress coach” smart patch can help people in addiction recovery manage stress and cravings, reducing relapse risk. Researchers reported in JAMA Psychiatry that participants using the patch saw a 64% drop in alcohol and drug use compared to others in standard treatment. The patch tracks heart rate in real time and alerts users when stress levels rise. Lead researcher David Eddie of Massachusetts General Hospital said early recovery often brings poor awareness of emotional states. The device uses artificial intelligence to prompt short breathing exercises when stress or cravings increase. In the eight-week study of 115 participants, those wearing the patch reported fewer negative emotions and cravings. Researchers say more studies are needed to confirm long-term benefits. (Upi)
