FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – The City of Fargo is considering reducing the amount of time cars can park on downtown streets for free. The city says it wants to push long term downtown visitors to underused parking ramps.
“We want to provide parking options for everyone. And the city’s made tremendous investments in off street ramps and lots. And so we want to make sure that people are aware of that parking and that longer term parking goes to those facilities. So that we can ensure short term parking is available on street for people who need to run to the coffee shop, run for a lunch, a meeting, etc. To support those businesses,” said Robert Ferrin, a Senior Project Manager at Kimley-Horn, a group that specializes in engineering and planning.
The City of Fargo is also recommending replacing its Parking Commission that was removed earlier this year with a full-time Parking Manager. The recommendations are expected to be proposed to city commissioners by next month.
