Someone had to look into it…
Jelly beans and sauvignon blanc – For some people, the only way to eat this classic candy is by the handful, which means you’re getting a dozen different flavors at once. That can make pairing a little tricky, but sauvignon blanc is here for it, as the white wine helps balance out all those fruity jelly bean flavors.
Chocolate bunny and cabernet sauvignon – This Easter basket staple is simple and delicious, and goes best with a wine that’s also straightforward. A cab sav with flavors of black raspberry and ripe cherries is a good match for the strong cocoa in the bunny. Whether you eat it feet first or ears first is up to you.
Peeps and chardonnay – These marshmallow cuties are a classic Easter candy, but while they’re iconic, they’re really a sugar overload. To contrast all that sweetness, you’ll want a nice, crisp wine, and a chardonnay with flavors of apple and pear will do the trick. The key is a white wine that will enhance the Peeps, not overwhelm them.
Reese’s Eggs and merlot – There’s plenty of terrible Easter candy out there, but this isn’t one of them. These festive holiday-shaped peanut butter and chocolate treats are one of the most popular in the U.S. and if you’re a fan, try them with a merlot. Look for a red with notes of cherry, vanilla and chocolate, which wine pros say pairs perfectly with the Reese’s Eggs.
