Rex the wallaby was safely recovered after escaping from Lots of Love Farm in Williamstown, New Jersey on December 29. The 3-foot-tall marsupial was found the next day in a Walmart parking lot in Gloucester County. Owner Ron Layden said Rex escaped while being moved due to cold weather when “the cage didn’t get all the way shut.” Shopper Caitlyn Evangelista spotted the animal and alerted others. “I screamed like, ‘Stop, I think I see it,'” Evangelista told WPVI. Another witness, Klarissa Harper, said she saw “something’s hopping in front of my car” while leaving the store. A group of young men with nets helped capture Rex and return him home. Owner Sue Layden called the rescue “actually a miracle, they’re not easy to catch” when speaking to NBC Philadelphia. (Story URL)
