Netflix has officially ordered a sequel series to A Different World following a rare pilot order in March. Maleah Joi Moon will star as Deborah Wayne, daughter of original characters Dwayne Wayne and Whitney Gilbert, as she begins freshman year at Hillman College. The series follows Deborah as she “enters her freshman year at her parents’ HBCU alma mater and finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape. She sets out to build her own legacy – while having the time of her life – alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.” The cast includes Alijah Kai, Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, and Kennedi Reece. Felicia Pride serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The original NBC series ran six seasons and aired 144 episodes. (Story URL)
