Taylor Swift sparked a surge of support for otter conservation after wearing a Monterey Bay Aquarium T-shirt in a clip from her box-office topping film, The Release Party of a Showgirl, inspiring fans to buy shirts with the reissued 1990s design which raised over $2.2 million for sea otter habitat restoration in California. The aquarium expressed gratitude to the Swifties for their overwhelming support, which forced them to put the fundraiser tee on backorder for the time being. “Your response was beyond our Wildest Dreams,” says a statement from Monterey Bay. “We hear you loud and clear, and we’re so grateful for the All Too Well kind of love this fundraising campaign has received.” In addition to wearing the t-shirt, Swift also shared her affection for otters during her record-breaking appearance on fiancé Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, proclaiming that, “All I really use the internet for is sourdough and when Travis shows me videos of otters on his Instagram algorithm.” (Billboard)
