Mental health conditions among LGBTQ+ teens and young adults worsened dramatically over one year, according to a new Trevor Project survey of nearly 1,700 youth aged 13 to 24. Anxiety rates jumped from 57% to 68%, while depression increased from 48% to 54% between September 2023 and March 2025. Suicidal thoughts rose from 41% to 47%, though actual suicide attempts dropped from 11% to 7%. Transgender and nonbinary youth showed the poorest mental health outcomes, with teens aged 13 to 17 facing the highest suicide risk. “I think it’s critical for lawmakers and community leaders to understand the weight of both their words and their policies,” said Ronita Nath, The Trevor Project’s vice president of research. Access to mental health care also declined from 80% to 60% among participants seeking treatment. (Story URL)
