Twiggy the water-skiing squirrel became the star attraction at the Carolina Classic Fair in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, drawing large crowds on opening day Friday. The talented performer is scheduled to appear multiple times daily through Sunday when the fair concludes. This Twiggy continues a legacy that began in 1979 when Hurricane David knocked a baby squirrel from its nest in Central Florida. Lou Ann Best and her husband Chuck adopted that first squirrel and trained it to water ski. Best trained eight water-skiing squirrels total before retiring from the act. Chuck Best Jr., her son, now tours the country with the current Twiggy, maintaining the family tradition. (Story URL)
