FARGO (KFGO) – A Wisconsin-based convenience store chain is close to making its debut in the Fargo-Moorhead market.
Kwik Trip is headquartered in La Crosse. The company is family-owned and was founded in 1965. It has about 900 stores.
“We make it. We ship it. We sell it,” the company’s Ben Liebl says. “Everything comes fresh on our trucks, daily. You take a look at our hot food program. Everything is made right in the stores at that moment. Our food team has done a great job of bringing in a variety of different foods, whether it be hot food, cold food. We’ve got cold subs, sandwiches, salads, cheese curd… fried chicken.”
The first store, on Main Avenue SE in Moorhead, is scheduled to open Oct. 9. Others will follow in the next few months.
Liebl says to avoid confusion with another chain, the North Dakota stores will be called ‘Kwik Star’ while those in Minnesota will be ‘Kwik Trip.’
“When we first started building Kwik Stars in Iowa back in the 1990s, there was another convenience store also called Kwik Trip, but theirs is spelled with a ‘Q.’ So, when we first moved into Iowa, Quick Trip was there before us, and so – in order to differentiate ourselves, a better way to market ourselves – we had to create a new name,” Liebl says.
The stores will be open 24 hours.
