DeKalb County Police arrested Kailan Whatley on September 16th for allegedly stealing more than 90 manhole covers from county streets this month. Whatley faces eight counts of theft of government property, with additional charges expected. Police say five separate incidents since September 2 involved the theft of at least 91 DeKalb County Public Works manhole covers. The case broke when a Rockdale County witness recorded two men removing manhole covers and loading them into a 2020 Nissan Kick. Detectives traced the vehicle’s owner, connected him to other thefts, and arrested Whatley during a traffic stop in DeKalb County. (Story URL)
