Former Baltimore Orioles player Brian Roberts issued a public apology Sunday after questioning Canadian fans’ baseball understanding during Friday’s live MASN broadcast. Roberts said “I got to be real, real careful what I say, but sometimes we had some major questions about the baseball IQ of some Canadians here and there. I think, you know, at times it felt like maybe they enjoyed or they knew a little bit more about hockey than baseball.” His remarks followed Toronto fans booing an Orioles pickoff attempt. Play-by-play partner Kevin Brown immediately warned Roberts to stop. Roberts apologized before Sunday’s game, stating “I definitely never ever meant to cause anyone to feel like I was disrespecting them at all.” Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement defended Toronto fans, noting “We get 40,000 a night here.” The Blue Jays swept Baltimore in the three-game series.
