A new Banksy artwork showing a judge striking a fallen protester was quickly censored at London’s Royal Courts of Justice. The anonymous artist confirmed the mural on Instagram Monday after court guards covered it with black plastic sheets. The piece depicts a wig-wearing judge using his gavel to beat a protester holding a bloodied sign. Many view the artwork as commentary on Saturday’s arrest of 890 demonstrators supporting Palestine Action during a London protest. Of those arrested, 857 were charged under the Terrorism Act for backing the organization, which Britain banned in July. Protesters sat silently holding signs reading “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.” Defend Our Juries organized the demonstration and called considering such action terrorism “objectively preposterous and profoundly corrosive to the principles of free expression.” (Story URL)
