A woman from Ireland secretly traveled to Switzerland to undergo assisted suicide, despite telling her family she was on vacation in Lithuania. Maureen Slough, 58, informed a friend she “was not herself” and “felt like she had been living in hell,” leading the friend to reveal her plans to Slough’s daughter, Megan Royal. Royal frantically tried to locate her mother, but Slough had already paid $20,000 to the Pegasos nonprofit and undergone a psychiatric evaluation, which deemed her mentally sound. Slough’s death was later confirmed to Royal via a WhatsApp message from Pegasos. Royal expressed her grief, stating her mother “wasn’t terminally ill” and “had a lot more life to live.” (Story URL)
