If your day doesn’t officially start until after that first sip of coffee, science is on your side. A new study of regular caffeine drinkers found that a morning cup not only perks you up but also boosts mood — making people feel happier and more enthusiastic. The energizing effects can last up to 2.5 hours.

Interestingly, these benefits occur no matter how much sleep you got, how anxious you feel, or even how much caffeine you typically consume. Researchers note, however, that part of the “boost” may simply come from reversing mild caffeine withdrawal after a night’s rest.
For maximum impact, experts suggest holding off on that first cup until 60–90 minutes after waking. That way, you’ll align your caffeine intake with your body’s natural rhythms — and enjoy a stronger, longer-lasting lift.
