A recent study conducted by Michigan State University researchers revealed that people often make inaccurate personality judgments based on individuals’ tattoos. The study, which involved 274 tattooed adults, found that observers consistently misjudged personality traits such as agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism, and openness to experience based on tattoo content, style, and appearance. Despite strong consensus among judges in their assessments, accuracy was notably low when compared to participants’ self-reported personality traits. The study highlighted how visual stereotypes influenced personality impressions, with specific tattoo characteristics like size, quality, and imagery content playing a role in misjudgments.
