Florida Woman Uses Cooking Oil to Torch Boyfriend’s Car, Nearly Burns Down Apartment
In Bradenton, Florida, a 38-year-old woman is facing arson charges after using cooking oil to set her boyfriend’s car on fire, and nearly taking the entire apartment building with it.
Police say the fire started around 8:20 p.m. Monday. When firefighters arrived, they found a Nissan Altima fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading dangerously close to nearby units.
Witnesses pointed to Natasha Killebrew, who was still on the scene. She told officers the car belonged to her boyfriend, with whom she lives.
At first, Killebrew denied starting the fire. Then she claimed she threw a lit cigarette. Then she said she doused both herself and the car in cooking oil and tried to set herself on fire too. Police noted she had no burn marks or injuries consistent with that claim.
The fire was eventually put out before reaching the rest of the building. Killebrew was arrested and is now facing arson charges and a probation violation.
No injuries were reported, unless you count the Altima, which looked like it lost a fight with a deep fryer and a flamethrower.
