Wanted Man Climbs 80-Foot Tree To Escape Police, Triggers 8-Hour Standoff
A wanted man in Washington state went full Tarzan in an attempt to escape the long arm of the law by climbing 80 feet up a cedar tree.
Deputies in Port Townsend were trying to arrest the man, who had an active Department of Corrections escape warrant, along with being a suspect in two burglary and theft investigations. After finding his vehicle abandoned in the woods, they tracked him down, prompting a foot chase.
Instead of running further, the man looked up and climbed high into a massive tree. Once perched among the treetops, the man refused to come down and at one point threatened suicide. Law enforcement brought in negotiators, and after eight hours of careful de-escalation, they finally convinced him to descend. He was evaluated by medics before being taken into custody.
