Florida Man Clings to a Fridge in the Back of a Pickup Truck
Just when you thought you’d seen every flavor of Florida Man, here comes a guy who said, “Forget bungee cords, I got this.”
A video that’s quickly going viral shows a Florida man clinging to a refrigerator in the bed of a moving pickup truck, with the tailgate wide open. The wild ride was spotted at the intersection of Lee Boulevard and Gunnery Road North just after 9 a.m. on May 1st.
The video only lasted a few seconds, but that’s all defensive driving experts needed to collectively say, “NOPE.” Jay Anderson, a traffic safety instructor, pointed out that Florida Statute 316.520 requires any load, like an 800-pound fridge, to be properly secured.
And while Florida law does allow adults to ride in the bed of a truck, the rules say you must be sitting, not surfing a fridge like it’s a mechanical bull.
One driver who saw the stunt said, “It’s kind of dangerous, and that’s a big hazard for everyone.” Yeah, especially if the fridge decides to yeet itself into traffic.
No injuries were reported, but Florida Highway Patrol is reminding folks: “Your truck bed isn’t a moving apartment. Secure your stuff. Or at least don’t make your buddy risk his life like a human bungee strap.”
