An Ohio man has been accused of checking out 100 books from Beachwood Public Library and burning them. The alleged book burner reportedly posted a video of himself in the act on social media. The Beachwood Police Department is not commenting on the investigation, but Ohio state Senator Kent Smith said the following in a May 9th statement: “I condemn this act, not only because it is a crime against our institutions and community, but also because it is fundamentally un-American.” The books that were destroyed reportedly covered topics including Jewish history, African American history, and LGBTQ+ education.
