ROAD RAGE RATCHET: Florida Man Hurls Socket Wrench Through Car Window, Hits Ex and Smashes Victim’s Phone
A Florida man took road rage to socket-wrench levels when he allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend and another driver with a metal ratchet, smashing a car window and a cellphone in the process.
Albert Guillen-Garcia, 25, is now facing two felonies and a misdemeanor after a wild April 28 encounter at an intersection in Naples that escalated from shouting to shattered glass.
According to Collier County deputies, Guillen-Garcia was chasing a car that happened to contain his ex-girlfriend and another man, eventually catching up with them near a turn lane. Witnesses say he jumped out of his car with a metal socket ratchet, smashed the driver’s side window, and hit both people inside with broken glass.
Not done yet, he then allegedly chucked the ratchet at the male driver’s face, missing his head but destroying the guy’s phone. Guillen-Garcia fled the scene, but an alert dealership employee snapped a photo of the license plate, helping police track him down.
Guillen-Garcia told deputies he thought his ex had broken things in his home earlier that day, but admitted he had no proof. He also denied holding anything during the attack, which would be a lot more believable if multiple people and a surveillance video hadn’t said otherwise.
He now faces:
-
Felony: Throwing a deadly missile into a vehicle
-
Felony: Criminal mischief (damage over $1,000)
-
Misdemeanor: Criminal mischief (damage $200–$1,000)
The victim’s car was damaged, the phone was totaled, and the ratchet? Probably back at AutoZone where it belongs.
