Kansas Man Steals 800-Pound Cannon to Pay Off Meth Debt, Cuts It Into Pieces Like It’s Scrap Metal
If you’ve ever wondered what bad idea looks like, meet Gordon Pierce III, a Kansas man who thought an 800-pound historical cannon was the answer to his $20,000 meth debt.
Pierce, a 20-year meth user, told police his drug dealer fronted him a pound of meth, which was then stolen. The dealer, not buying the story, allegedly threatened to shoot Pierce and his family unless he paid up.
That’s when Pierce made what could only be described as a “hold my meth pipe” decision—he dragged a cannon from a public park over a mile to a friend’s house using “unknown means” (read: probably a bad back and worse judgment), cut it into chunks with power tools, and presented the pieces to his dealer like some sort of demented down payment.
Even the dealer reportedly kicked him out, fearing the stunt would “bring heat on this house”. Spoiler: it did.
Cops followed the drag marks back to Pierce, who was still in possession of meth and pieces of the historic cannon. He now faces charges of theft, property damage, and drug possession. His court date is set for May 22.
The cannon, gifted to the city in 1900, was described as “irreplaceable”.
