Ohio Traffic Stop Turns Fuzzy and Felonious: Pet Raccoon Found Holding Meth Pipe
In a scene straight out of a backwoods buddy comedy, Ohio police discovered a pet raccoon clutching a meth pipe during a routine traffic stop Monday evening.
Officer Austin Branham pulled over 55-year-old Victoria Vidal in Springfield Township near Cincinnati, after learning the vehicle’s registered owner had an active warrant and a suspended license. Vidal was detained without incident, but things took a wild turn when the officer returned to her car.
That’s when he spotted “Chewy,” a raccoon, sitting like a little meth gremlin in the front seat with a glass pipe in his paws.
According to police, “Chewy had somehow gotten hold of a glass methamphetamine pipe, leading officers to further inspect the vehicle.”
The deeper search uncovered a bulk amount of meth, crack cocaine, and multiple used pipes. Vidal was arrested on drug possession and paraphernalia charges and turned over to Cuyahoga Falls Police on her warrant. Additional charges are expected.
Chewy was unharmed and proved to be a legally owned pet (yes, she had the paperwork). Authorities say proper agencies were notified to ensure Chewy’s continued care, hopefully in a drug-free environment.
