Man Accidentally Fires Flare Gun Inside Texas Walmart While Allegedly Shoplifting
If you’re planning to shoplift, it’s probably best not to set off a literal distress signal inside the store.
Roy Mack Biggs, 53, of Longview, is now facing multiple charges after police say he accidentally discharged a flare gun inside a Walmart while allegedly trying to shoplift on Saturday.
According to Kilgore police, officers were dispatched after receiving a 911 call about a man “concealing merchandise” while holding a gun. Before they could arrive, the flare gun went off inside the store, definitely not the kind of rollback special shoppers were expecting.
Biggs, perhaps realizing this wasn’t going well, allegedly placed the flare gun on a store shelf and tried to casually head toward the exit. Police were waiting.
He was arrested and booked into the Gregg County Jail, facing charges of deadly conduct and theft of property.
No injuries were reported, but you better believe a flare gun going off inside a crowded Walmart caused some serious chaos. One witness told reporters, “It lit up the whole aisle like someone was launching fireworks next to the produce.”
