Michigan Man Sends Bomb Threat to Carnival Cruise to Avoid Pet Sitting – Ends Up in Prison Instead
You know what’s worse than getting stuck pet sitting while your girlfriend’s family sails the high seas? Going to federal prison because you emailed in a bomb threat to stop them from going.
Joshua Lowe, 19, of Michigan, really didn’t want to be left behind watching the cats, dogs, or possibly a turtle while his girlfriend’s family cruised out of Miami in January 2024. So instead of just breaking up like a normal emotionally overwhelmed teen, he emailed Carnival Cruises a bomb threat hoping the trip would be canceled.
And yes, they took it seriously. The threat caused over 1,000 rooms to be searched, delaying the entire cruise and triggering a federal investigation. Spoiler alert: the FBI is really good at tracing emails. Especially when they come from your personal account, sent from inside the house of the people you’re mad at.
Lowe was caught, arrested, and just sentenced to eight months in federal prison. He admitted he sent the threat because he was “upset” about being left behind to watch the pets. In a letter to the judge, he said, “This is all my fault and take full responsibility.” Yeah, bud. It is.
On the bright side, Lowe won’t be pet sitting again anytime soon. Or using Wi-Fi unsupervised.
