Man Finally ‘Passes’ $770K Worth of Tiffany Earrings After Weeks in Hospital
A Florida man who swallowed $770,000 worth of diamond earrings stolen from Tiffany & Co. has finally “passed” the jewelry—weeks after his arrest.
Jaythan Gilder, 32, was arrested last month after pulling off a high-end heist at the Tiffany store inside Orlando’s Mall at Millenia. Posing as a representative for an NBA player, he was given access to a private viewing room, where he swallowed four diamond earrings and fled. Hours later, he was pulled over and arrested by Florida Highway Patrol.
Once in custody, authorities quickly realized Gilder wasn’t just sitting on a pile of stolen diamonds—he was carrying them internally. He refused X-rays and medical evaluations, but a jail intake scan revealed “foreign objects” in his body. Instead of rushing him to surgery, officials simply waited for nature to take its course.
After weeks in an Orlando hospital, Gilder finally expelled all four Tiffany earrings—along with two other unidentified earrings he apparently swallowed at some point. Police have not determined where those came from.
Gilder, who has a long history of smash-and-grab robberies across Texas, Colorado, and Oklahoma, is currently being held without bond on charges of grand theft and robbery. A judge ruled that he is a threat to the community and is also wanted in multiple states, Gilder remains in the Orange County jail without bond.
