Woman Loses Hands After Trying to Take Selfie with a Shark
Some selfies just aren’t worth it. A 55-year-old Canadian tourist learned that the hard way after attempting to snap a photo with a six-foot shark while visiting Thompson Cove Beach in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Instead of a picture-perfect moment, the shark latched onto her hands, causing devastating injuries.
Bystanders—including her husband, who managed to scare off the predator—rushed to her aid, using their clothes to slow the bleeding. Unfortunately, she had to undergo amputations: one hand below the wrist and her other arm halfway up her forearm.
Luckily, she’s recovering. Authorities believe the shark was a bull shark.
