Siblings Take Room Cleaning Dispute to Court
A heated sibling feud over personal boundaries and cleanliness ended up in a Singapore family court, with both a brother and sister obtaining court orders against each other. According to court documents, the brother complained that his sister had repeatedly entered his bedroom over eight years to clean it, despite his objections, leading him to feel his privacy was invaded. This stress reportedly caused him multiple hospitalizations at the Institute of Mental Health.
In response, the sister defended her actions, explaining that she was simply keeping her brother’s room clean, as she felt he neglected to do so himself. She applied for a personal protection order (PPO) against her brother after an incident where, during an argument about her cleaning his room, he allegedly assaulted her.
The court issued mutual PPOs to both parties. The brother also received a partial exclusion order to prevent his sister from entering his bedroom, though she remained firm, claiming, “If he’s not comfortable, he can stay out. This unit belongs to my dad, not him.”
