Florida Man Arrested for Trying to Steal Generator Powering Traffic Light
A Florida man, Soyal Zapata-Dye, was arrested after attempting to steal a generator that was powering a traffic light in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Tampa Electric workers caught him in the act and provided authorities with photos of the suspect and his license plate.
Deputies tracked Zapata-Dye to his home, where he claimed that since the generator had no lock or name on it, he thought it was free for the taking.
The 40-year-old was charged with grand theft of the third degree during a state of emergency. The incident occurred as millions remained without power due to the Category 3 hurricane that hit the Tampa Bay area.
