Breaking Wind: Farting Blows Up as a Top Sexual Fetish
Believe it or not, “passing gas” has become the second most popular sexual fetish worldwide.
Researchers at the kink and fetish platform Clips4Sale analyzed search data and sales related to various fetishes. They discovered that while bondage holds the top spot globally, searches for passing gas have skyrocketed by 430 percent over the past year, with sales of related paraphernalia increasing by 40 percent.
In the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, farting remains the second most popular fetish, just behind bondage. However, it has taken the top spot in Brazil and Portugal.
The fetish, known as eproctophilia, is a form of olfactophilia, where individuals are sexually aroused by body odors. Though it’s unclear how many people experience eproctophilia, a few case studies have been published on the subject.
Sarah Berry, a sex and relationship therapist, explains that this fetish often develops when someone is exposed to gas in a heightened environment. “Farts are generally regarded as funny, gross, and/or embarrassing. Any experiences exacerbating these reactions could give rise to farting as a sexual preference.”
