Google Street View Driver’s Reckless Chase – Behind the ‘Lens’
A Google Street View driver, Coleman Ferguson, led police on a high-speed chase in Indiana. Caught hitting speeds of up to 120 miles per hour, Ferguson crashed the camera-equipped vehicle into a creek during his attempt to evade law enforcement.
Facing felony charges, Ferguson pleaded guilty to reckless operation of the vehicle. He agreed to a one-year suspended jail sentence, restitution of $3220.97, and other fees as part of a plea deal. Scheduled for sentencing as a lesser Class A misdemeanor, Ferguson’s actions sparked concerns about public safety.
Eyewitnesses recounted swerving to avoid collisions with the speeding Street View car during the chase. Ferguson, fearing arrest, refused to stop despite being employed by Google. His criminal history, including prior driving infractions, raised questions about his suitability as a contractor for the tech giant.
Maybe Google should look into branching out into action sports or upgrading to the Street View car with racing stripes and spoiler – wonder if they would call it the ‘Ferguson’ edition.
