If you’ve never heard the term “cyberchondria,” it’s when you obsessively Google health stuff online. And it’s something a LOT of us do. Someone looked at the top health questions people in all 50 states google more than other states. Here are the highlights . . .
1. Alabama wants to know “How do you get monkey pox?” and “Why do I sweat in my sleep?”
2. Arkansas is wondering “What causes hemorrhoids?” Next-door neighbor Mississippi is also asking about them. Specifically, “What ARE hemorrhoids?” They’re swollen veins.
3. California is asking “Why do I keep yawning?” . . . “Is it bad to sleep with your bra on?” . . . and “Why do I pee when I sneeze?” “Why do I pee when I cough?” is also a top search in Texas.
4. Connecticut: “How long does pink eye last?” Usually a week or two.
5. Florida just checked the fridge and is curious, “What happens when you eat mold?” A lot of people in Wyoming are asking that too.
6. Illinois: “Can you live without a spleen?” Yes, you can.
7. Indiana: “Why am I always hungry?” And also, “How to relieve gas pain?”
8. Kansas: “What does ringworm look like?”
9. Kentucky: “Why does coffee make you poop?” And also, “Can you live without a SPINE?” That’s a hard no.
10. Maryland has been asking, “Why are my eyes red?” (They just legalized weed last year, so . . .)
11. Missouri: “How long can you go without sleep?”
12. New Mexico: “How long can you go without food?”
13. New York: “Why are my hands so dry?”
14. Ohio: “Can you die from a broken heart?” (Might be a tough Valentine’s Day in Ohio.)
15. Pennsylvania: “Is rainwater safe to drink?”
16. South Dakota might want to get to the E.R.: “Why does my stomach hurt?” and “What side is your appendix on?”
17. Utah: “Why do I sweat so much?”
18. Wisconsin: “Why is my eye twitching?”
Across the board, a lot of people also seem to be asking about allergies . . . blood pressure . . . headaches . . . stomach aches . . . sleep apnea . . . ringing in your ears . . . sore throats . . . and that lingering cough that won’t go away.
