FARGO (KFGO) -The Fargo School Board voted against raising their salaries from $1,000 per month to $1,500 per month.
Tuesday’s vote was six against and two in favor of the raise that would have taken effect July 1, 2024.
The two board members voting for the raise were Greg Clark and Jim Johnson.
The planning committee had approved a recommendation to increase board member compensation.
An additional $50 per month for the duties of board president was dropped from the motion before it was voted on.
There was some concern voiced over the timing and public perception while others were concerned that the additional money would take away from funding a teaching position.
The last time school board member’s pay was increased was in 2009 when their salary went from $750 to $1,000 a month.
In 2016, the board approved and then rescinded an increase to its compensation.
