MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – There’s a silent march and memorial service Thursday evening in Minneapolis for 252 people in Minnesota who died this year while homeless or previously homeless or were advocates for those without housing.
Steve Horsfield with Simpson Housing Services calls it a sacred event, and the only sort of service that happens for some of the people who pass away while homeless.
Names of those being remembered will be displayed on signs carried during the march, and their names will be read during the memorial service afterward.
On December 21, the Winter Solstice and longest night of the year, the F-M Coalition to End Homelessness will commemorate Homeless Memorial Day with a procession starting in Broadway Square and service at First Lutheran Church in downtown Fargo.
