GRAND FORKS, N.D.(UND Athletics) – For the first time since the 2006 season, North Dakota will visit Northern Iowa on Saturday. Kickoff between the Fighting Hawks and Panthers is slated for 4 p.m. inside the UNI-Dome. The game will be carried on AM 790 FM 94.1 | 104.7 KFGO and the Home of Economy Radio Network (Pregame Show @ 3 p.m.) and the Home of Economy Radio Network with a pregame show starting at 3 p.m.
UND enters the game with a 4-2 record and 2-1 standing in the MVFC after dismantling NDSU last week, 49-24. The Fighting Hawks scored touchdowns on six of their eight offensive possessions and limited the Bison to just 148 yards rushing. Luke Skokna and Gaven Ziebarth both scored a trio of touchdowns in the win, highlighted by Skokna’s 100-yard opening kickoff return for touchdown. The 49 points were the most UND has scored in the series since 1896.
UNI comes into Saturday with an overall record of 3-3 and a 2-1 mark in MVFC play after falling 41-6 at SDSU last weekend. Five Panther possessions in the first half ended with turnovers, allowing the Jackrabbits to finish with 17 points off turnovers. With 210 yards through the air in the contest, Theo Day became just the fifth player in UNI history to pass for over 7,000 yards in his career.
This will be the 40th meeting between UND and UNI. Northern Iowa holds a 25-14 lead in the series all-time, including a 15-5 series lead at home. The series started in 1936 and the Fighting Hawks came away with the most recent win of the series, winning 29-27 in the 2022 Potato Bowl USA Game last season. In the last game between the two squads in Cedar Falls, UND came away with a 35-31 victory on Sept. 9, 2006.
