FARGO (KFGO) – A Fargo building was declared dangerous by the city commission and the owner was given a September 8th deadline to have it removed.
City Inspections Director Shawn Ouradnik said the detached garage, likely built in the late 1940s, located at 421 15th Avenue North, was heavily damaged by fire in November of 2019 and met most of the city criteria required for a dangerous structure.
There has been some miscommunication between the property owner, Dawn Novotny, and the city about tearing down and rebuilding the garage being done by her fiance.
She asked the city commission for time because she doesn’t have the financial or social resources to rebuild the garage with just one person and will have to take time off to “help out” in order to get the project completed. Novotny said she would attempt to meet the deadline and get a permit for the project.
Ouradnik said Novotny will have to acquire a new permit once the garage demolition is completed.
