WILLISTON, N.D. (KFGO) – This past November, the City of Williston Fire Department received a
$7,500 grant from Enbridge to purchase a new electric-powered extrication tool. Enbridge
operates a grant program entitled “Fueling Futures.” One of the focus areas of this grant program
is promoting safe communities by supporting local first responders.
The funds received from this grant were used to purchase a battery-operated portable extrication
tool. These tools are primarily used to rescue those trapped inside motor vehicles after a collision.
They can also be used to rescue persons trapped in industrial or agricultural equipment. This grant
award allowed the WFD to complete the project of equipping all fire stations with basic
rescue/extrication equipment. Last month staff from Enbridge visited the WFD as the new piece
of equipment arrived and was prepared for service.
The locations of the city fire stations were selected to facilitate quick response to all areas of the
city. Having the basic rescue/extrication equipment available at each location will allow crews to
complete simple rescues without delay or begin more complex recoveries while waiting for more
advanced equipment to respond from the department’s Heavy Rescue vehicle housed at fire
station #2.
