FARGO (KFGO) – A Fargo man has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison for pointing a loaded gun at a Fargo police officer.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, in September 2020, police stopped 40-year-old Shawn Larkin’s vehicle because his license was suspended. Officers attempted to arrest Larkin who began fighting.
As officers had Larkin on the ground, he pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at them. Officers were able to gain control of Larkin and take him into custody.
During a search of Larkin – who was a felon from previous convictions – and his vehicle, officers found two loaded handgun magazines, drugs, and drug paraphernalia.
“Felons with guns are a threat to our law enforcement partners and the safety of our communities,” U.S. Attorney for North Dakota Mac Schneider said. “The U.S. Attorney’s office is committed to taking felons in possession of firearms off the street. This strong sentence is a reflection of that commitment.”
Larkin’s previous felony convictions include a 2001 theft in Wisconsin, simple assault of a peace officer in Ward County, North Dakota in 2012, and felony firearm possession in North Dakota in 2013.
